Gretchen Spiess is a costumer by trade, and founder of the Chantilly Theatre in Stevensville, MT. The year 2008 marks her 38th year in the Theatrical Arts profession.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from UNLV and a Masters of Fine Arts in costume design from USC. In Las Vegas, she was costumer for the Nevada Dance Theatre, the Liberace Show, and was one of the founding members of the nationally recognized Rainbow Company Children's Theatre.
Gretchen's Los Angeles credits include costume designer for "Aman International Folk Ensemble Saudi Arabian Tour" and "The Olympics Arts Festival", Theatricum Botanicum's production of "Our Town" with Richard Dyshart, the 1984 Olympics Opening Ceremonies, and "A Doll House", with Linda Purl and Nicholas Pryor, for which she received the Drama Critic's Award for Outstanding Costume Design.
Her film credits include the Fox TV Series, "Small Wonder", "The Incredible Edible Egg" commercial for McWater/VanLynt, "Nashville Beat" movie of the week for NAC Productions. and "Charlie Chan and Curse of the Dragon Queen" with Peter Ustinov for Universal Pictures.
For 16 years, Gretchen was the Executive and Artistic Director of Chantilly Theatre. In 2006 she stepped down to pursue her love of teaching at the university level.
